Those on a diet increasingly choose low-fat yoghurts, let's see what we have to be careful about when we buy them
The supermarket refrigerated counter offers us yoghurt really of all types, sizes and tastes, often however, those passed off as healthy and light yoghurts , in truth they are only sweet in the jar.
What should we look for in a yogurt? What do we mean when we read "Yogurt light or lean or 0.1"?
Let's be clear ... The truth is that we refer to the amount of fat in yogurt and therefore, a whole yogurt will be made with whole milk, while the lean one with skimmed milk; to better understand try to compare the nutritional tables of a low- fat white yogurt and a lean fruit yogurt .
In both the amount of fat is less than whole yoghurts but that of sugars is more than double in fruit yogurt, albeit thin or light; this happens because it is true that the industries use a skimmed milk but then they add some super-sweetened fruit preparations that therefore nullify the effort to make the yogurt itself lighter.
So what do we choose in front of the fridge counter?
Well if we talk about a child or someone who has no weight problems, he can also choose whole fruit yoghurt, but if you are intent on throwing down a few pounds you can opt for a natural unsweetened white yogurt (in this case the ingredients must be only fresh milk and live lactic ferments); this can be enjoyed as it is for those who love the taste, or alternatively with pieces of fresh fruit or a teaspoon of honey or jam.
Instead, as a middle ground, we can choose a sweet whole white yogurt, which has about 10 grams of sugar on 100 grams of product compared to 15, 16 grams of the lean fruit one, obtaining a tasty snack comparable to an apple in terms of sugars .
As far as fats are concerned, those we save ourselves with milk or skimmed yogurt are not so decisive, because we are talking about a really minimal difference that has little effect on achieving a healthy weight .
So yogurt promoted both as a snack and as a milk substitute for breakfast, as live milk enzymes are a panacea for bowel health . Quite the opposite for all those "yogurt substitutes" who, especially the littlest ones, like puddings, mousses with drawings and cartoons, these are more desserts than healthy snacks, so do not choose daily but sporadically as if they were an icecream.
So yes to yogurt ... But the right one!
